A little more room for your projects.
NotesDive is growing from a home for local notes into a place to bring a whole project together: folders, documents, links, recordings, and next steps.
Roadmap · Updated October 1, 2026
This is our intended direction, not a release schedule. “In development” is being built, “Next” is the first priority, “Planned” follows the foundations, and “Exploring” needs further research. Features marked In development, Next, Planned, or Exploring are not available in the current release. Scope and order may change as we learn.
Available today
Local Markdown editing, remembered folders, PDF and image viewing, search, and todos collected from your notes. Home brings recent documents, projects, and open tasks together across linked folders. Projects have a cockpit for their goal, files, tasks, and web links. Portable libraries keep project organization in a folder you choose, and Settings manages libraries and local folder shortcuts. The editor, Files, and Todos tabs continue to work in one folder at a time. NotesDive works without an account or a cloud connection.
1. Projects and settings
Project foundation available in v0.8.0 · Portable libraries and cockpit available in v0.9.0
Bring several folders together in one project without moving the files you already have.
- Create, name, pin, and archive projects. Give each project a description and a recognizable color.
- Attach multiple local folders, including folders in different locations. A folder can belong to more than one project.
- See a project overview with recent documents and open todos. Pinning individual resources is planned. Search and filter across the project's folders, with each result showing its source.
- Choose a default folder for new notes. Attachment destinations are planned. Keep the existing option to work with a single folder.
- Project settings and a separate app Settings page for libraries and folder shortcuts are available. Editor, audio, and connection preferences follow with those features.
- Keep unavailable folders visible with a reconnect action. Removing a folder from a project or archiving a project leaves its files in place.
Delivered in v0.8.0: open a project with two folders, find notes and todos across both, and resume it after restarting the app. Existing folder shortcuts remain available after upgrading. Project scans refresh on focus, on request, and every 15 seconds while the window is visible. Pinning individual resources remains planned.
Portable libraries
Available in v0.9.0
Choose where your project organization lives, and keep it alongside your files.
- Manage libraries from a Settings page, opened with the gear in the navigation rail. Create a named library in a location you choose, or open an existing library folder.
- Keep several libraries, such as Work and Personal, and switch between their projects.
- Store project settings in a folder per project, alongside Markdown notes, a links note, and attachments.
- Use relative references for folders inside a library so the library can move to another location or computer. External folders stay in place and can be reconnected separately.
- Recover projects by reopening their library after reinstalling NotesDive. Removing a library from the list leaves its files on disk.
- Import older project setups without moving their notes. Keep the library inside a Git repository if you want; in-app commits and remote connections follow separately.
Delivered in v0.9.0: create two libraries in chosen locations, switch between their projects, and reopen a moved library with its organization and internal notes intact. External folders need their own backup or transfer.
2. Links and project resources
Basic links available in v0.9.0 · More resource tools planned
Keep the useful references next to the work they belong to.
- Save a web link with a title, description, and optional tags. Pin useful links to the project overview.
- Collect notes, PDFs, images, and links in one project view, with filters by type and folder.
- Open web links from a project's
Links.mdin your default browser, copy their addresses, or edit the Markdown source. A dedicated link form is planned. - Keep saved links in portable Markdown notes. Choose their destination folder in project settings.
- Add folder creation and file renaming, with clear handling of references to renamed files.
First milestone: add a link, find it through project search, and open it alongside the project's notes.
3. Voice notes
Planned · After project resources
Capture a thought or meeting note while keeping the original recording in your own files.
- Record, pause, stop, and play back audio, or import an existing recording.
- Save the recording in the project's chosen attachments folder, with a linked Markdown note for a title and written context.
- Show recording status clearly and request microphone access when recording is first used.
- Add input-device, storage-location, and recording-quality settings, subject to platform support.
First milestone: make a recording, restart NotesDive, and play it from the project. Interrupted recordings should be recoverable where possible.
Exploring: optional transcription, language selection, and timestamps. Local and cloud transcription need a separate feasibility review. Any cloud processing would require an explicit choice; audio would remain local by default.
4. Git history and GitHub
Planned · After projects
Make a deliberate snapshot of your notes and, optionally, publish it to a connected repository.
- Connect an existing local Git repository and show its branch, changed files, and differences.
- Select files, write a message, and create a local commit from NotesDive.
- Offer a separate push action for a configured GitHub remote, with clear success, authentication, and conflict states.
- Configure the repository, remote, and exclusions. Recordings and other large attachments are excluded from app-selected commits by default.
- Show repositories separately when a project spans more than one. Each commit belongs to one repository.
First milestone: review and commit selected changes locally, then push them only when requested. Unrelated staged changes must remain intact. Automatic commits, automatic pushes, and an in-app merge editor are outside the first milestone.
5. WebDAV connection
Planned · After project storage and conflict handling
Connect a project folder to your own WebDAV storage and keep a local copy available offline.
- Set up a server URL, account, remote folder, and local destination; test the connection before enabling transfers.
- Start with manual download and upload, including a preview of which files will change.
- Add synchronization after reliable transfer and conflict handling are established, with pause, retry, last-sync status, and a readable activity log.
- Keep both versions when local and remote edits conflict. Deletion propagation is off by default in the first milestone.
- Configure direction, frequency, file exclusions, and attachment-size limits per folder connection.
First milestone: connect, transfer files, work offline, reconnect, and resolve a conflicting edit without losing either version. Two-way background sync follows compatibility testing with actual WebDAV servers. Git internals and credentials are never part of a WebDAV transfer.
6. reMarkable workflow
Exploring · Import and export first
Bring handwritten work into a project and prepare documents to take back to your tablet.
- Begin with importing exported PDFs and images into a chosen project folder.
- Explore watching a local import folder, with duplicate detection and clear source information.
- Prepare Markdown notes as PDFs for transfer through supported reMarkable workflows.
- Provide settings for the import folder, destination project, naming, and duplicate handling.
First milestone: import an exported notebook into a project and read it alongside related notes. Direct account linking, automatic device synchronization, and editing native reMarkable notebooks remain research topics, not promised features.
reMarkable documents file transfer through its apps, cloud integrations, and USB web interface. We will assess those workflows before choosing a direct integration. See the official import and export guide.
Settings that grow with the app
App preferences apply everywhere. Project settings control the files and connections belonging to that project. Connection-specific controls arrive with their corresponding feature.
- General: appearance, startup project, and navigation preferences.
- Editor: default editing mode, preview, typography, and autosave preferences.
- Libraries, projects and files: library locations, switching and recovery, attached folders, default destinations, resource locations, and search exclusions.
- Audio: microphone, recording quality, storage, and optional transcription preferences when available.
- Connections: GitHub repositories, WebDAV accounts, and any supported reMarkable workflow, each with connection status and a disconnect action.
- Data and privacy: local storage usage, project-metadata export, recovery options, and clear control over what leaves the device. Connection secrets belong in the operating system's secure credential storage.
What stays central
Your files remain yours. Projects organize them without requiring a NotesDive account. Local reading and writing remain available offline. Connections are optional, and transferring files is a visible choice. Portable libraries keep project organization alongside your notes, independent of the app installation.
As milestones ship, their actual behavior and limitations will appear in the release notes.
